Mark Fish

Capable of playing in defence or in midfield, Mark Fish, joined the Wanderers from Italian Serie A side Lazio for a £2.5 million fee in August 1997 from Orlando Pirates. An established international with over 40 caps for South Africa, he was a member of the Bafana Bafana side that lifted the African Nations Cup in January 1996.
He began with Arcadia, a Pretoria based club, but his first division debut in his home country came as a striker with Jomo Cosmos from Johannesburg when he was eighteen years old. Cosmos were relegated in 1993 and Fish joined Orlando Pirates, who won the League for the first time in twenty years the following season. Pirates went on to win the African Champions Cup, the African equivalent of the European Cup, and both West Ham and Manchester United offered Fish a trial. Lazio promptly signed him for £3 million and he became the first South African to play in Serie A since Eddie Firmani in the 1950's.
A fashionable dresser, he is a charming and mannerly player, who mixes easily with the fans and is always patient in giving autographs. The South African holds strong ambitions of playing in the Premiership with the Wanderers. He has not started many games this season and was out injured at the start of the season.
