Gudni can play at right back or in central defence. He is a player of significant
international experience for Iceland. He began his career with Valur before moving to
Tottenham Hotspur in December 1988. He played 71 League games for Spurs, returning to
Iceland with Valur whilst continuing his law studies. Gudni joining the Wanderers in 1995
after a trial period. He made his debut as a substitute in the 1995 Coca Cola Cup final
against Liverpool and has since proved a bargain for his total £115,000 fee. He captained the Wanderers to the first
division championship in the 1996/97 season and won has won over 80 international cap for
Iceland.
At the end of the
1999/2000 season Bergsson was expected to quit football and return to his law studies but
he decided to continue with the Wanderers.
